Our Top 5 Indiana Cold Cases: No. 5

Updated: Apr 18, 2019

As we get closer to revealing our Season 1 Indiana cold case, we wanted to share with you the other top 5 Indiana Cold Cases that get the most discussion in our “studio”.

.

No. 5: On October 16, 1973 the body of 17 year-old Ronnie Roberts was found by a fisherman near Geist Reservoir in Fishers, IN. If you visit this area now, you’ll find lavish homes and wonderful restaurants. In 1973 it was a much more rural, if not secluded, spot.

Ronnie was by all accounts a good, hard-working kid from a small town in Central Indiana. On October 14, 1973, Ronnie was working his part-time job at the Checker filling station in Yorktown, Indiana. Ronnie used his money from this job to keep his beloved VW fueled and was even saving to help his girlfriend buy a pair of eyeglasses.

Ronnie was last seen alive by the station’s manager at 7:30 PM when he stopped to check in on Ronnie before leaving him alone to close up the store for the night.

An hour later, two classmates of Ronnie’s stopped by for a visit. They found the station unlocked, the lights on, and Ronnie’s car in the parking lot, but there was no sign of Ronnie. They left and returned a short time later with no change to the situation so they phones police.

There was no sign of Ronnie until, sadly, his body was found near Geist reservoir two days later.

Several suspects, mostly frequent fliers on the Delaware County, Indiana police blotter, were pursued, but no charges were ever filed, and, disappointingly, the county police have lost their file on Ronnie’s death and media coverage of the case had ended by October 1974.

Ronnie’s mother and sister are still longing for answers. If you know anything about the night he was abducted and killed in 1973 or about the prime suspect, Clifford Mullinix, contact Sgt. Greg Ellison at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at 765-747-7881.
