Our Top 5 Indiana Cold Cases: No. 3

3C Podcast Top 5 Indiana Unsolved: No. 3 The deaths of Abby Williams and Libby German, known collectively as the “Delphi Murders”.

This is one of the most frustrating unsolved cases currently being investigated in Indiana because there is so much evidence that should tell us so much but has really led to so little concrete information and leads.

On Feb. 13, 2017 a family member dropped the two girls off at a trail near the Monon High Bridge, which spans Deer Creek in Carroll County Indiana.

At some point, Libby posts a Snapchat video of Abby crossing the bridge, unwittingly providing authorities a clue to close in on the time they were attacked and killed.

Hours after being dropped off at the trail, the girls fail to meet up with another family member, police are called, and a search begins. The fruitless search is ended due to darkness, is picked up again the next day, and around noon on the 2nd day of the search two bodies, later identified as Abby and Libby, are found nearly a half mile from the bridge.

In a final act of extreme wherewithal and bravery, Libby takes a video on her phone that seems to capture audio of their attacker ordering the girls down a hill near the trail. It is believed there is more audio and video available to police that they have not released.

Police have also released a photo of a man seen on the same bridge as the girls around the time of the attacks.

In subsequent investigation, authorities have searched the 30-acre property where the bodies were found for additional clues, including clues that the owner of the property may have been involved, and questioned and cleared a man arrested in Colorado in late 2017.

A sketch of a suspect based off of the video of the man on the bridge was released to the public, and it led to suspicion that a 46-year-old man arrested for trying to arrange sex with a minor girl may have been Abby and Libby’s killer.

To date, no arrests have been made, but just this past Monday Indiana State Police hope to have inched closer to a resolution in this case by releasing an entirely new sketch (SEE BELOW) that they unequivocally believe depicts the man who killed Libby and Abby. They also released additional audio and video from the day of the crime and are seeking anyone who knows anything about a car parked or abandoned near the local DCS/Welfare office on February 13, 2017.
